Most recently, we have heard about a new CD release from Shawn Bowen. Shawn, the lead guitarist for Sarasota’s own Neurotica, has switched gears from heavy metal to world music with a project called World Collision. We happen to know that he is puttin’ a band together to perform some of the new stuff.
Also, longtime local rockers Elysian Sex Drive have knocked another one out of the park with their new CD titled, “A Note To The Alchemist”. They have been playing locally, so keep your ear to the ground and go see them if you have the chance.

Makin’ the Scene.
A late night musing by Christopher Austin.Like many people, I can take things for granted or get so used to the way something is that I don’t examine it to see if it could be improved upon or simply to better understand it. I just get comfortable. While I don’t think that comfort is evil, nor do I think we have to constantly be dissecting something in order to make it super-duper-uber great, I do think for things that are important to us, we should periodically take a step back and reevaluate. For me, music and the musical culture of my community are among the most important topics. As such, I decided to take a step back from my own comfortable, almost intuited understanding of a music scene to prepare the following article.
The article, titled “Makin’ the Scene”, is a “top 10″ style list identifying some of the characteristics, environmental conditions, and components of a rockin’, grassroots music scene. It is my hope that others in the community, whether you are a musician, an establishment owner, or just a regular joe/jane, will take part in this discussion. Comments for this article are open.
