Creative Commons
Creative Commons - Art Licensing. At one end of the current art licensing spectrum, we have a totalitarian-like control where a person can almost be written a ticket for mentioning your music without paying. On the other end….. well, until recently, your primary option was to give it away. Creative Commons has come up with a series of artistic licenses that allow you to choose how strict or lenient you want to be with the copyright of your works.
You can still choose an “all rights reserved” license if you want. But, in this day, many people want more options. So, other licenses include “Attribution-Noncommercial” where people are allowed to copy, distribute, display, and perform your work, but are not allowed to use it for comercial use without paying you. Then there is the “Share Alike” license where a person is free to do anything with the work under 2 conditions: first, they have to give you, the artist, credit; and, if they alter, transform, or build upon the work, that, too, must be licensed under the “Share Alike” license.
