The Once And Future Kings
Comprised of members of several defunct local bands, The Once And Future Kings is an indie-rock band that has been steadily gaining fans through 2008.
In the style of bands like Taking Back Sunday, Emery and Sparta, The Once And Future Kings aims to deliver upbeat, anthemic rock songs via high-energy concerts and appearances. They’ve played throughout Florida, have been featured as a finalist in Bradenton Herald’s Battle of the Bands, and have appeared at several Sarasota venues.
Their first CD, “Connected”, was released on December 19th, and features eight songs, several of which can be heard on their myspace page.
The band first came together when drummer Ken Williams and Nicholas Christopher found each other through a classified ad. Singer Chris Williams was a late choice, who made the switch from guitar to vocals when a singer could not be found. Bass player and Sarasota hardcore veteran Anthony DeVirgilis was recommended by a mutual friend in May of 2008.
The band immediately recorded “Connected”, an eight-song LP featuring several songs that would become show-staples, including “Do You Want To Go To Buffalo” and “Another Hit”. Although recorded in May and June, lack of funding would keep the disc unreleased until December.
In the intervening months, The Once And Future Kings has cut their proverbial teeth playing shows at The Entersection, The Brass Mug, Orpheum and Pastimes. In October, they were selected as finalists in Bradenton Herald’s Battle of the Bands, and performed at the Manatee Civic Center.
