Bezl LaBonte
Originally from Brunswick, Maine, Bezl LaBonte is a self taught sculptor and a well trained musician. His artistic journey started with music in his high school and college years, during which times he studied voice, drums, and music theory with such notible artists as:
- Dick Demers
- Barbara Franklin
- grammy nominated Maguerite Juenamann
- Patrick Demsy
In addition to Bezl’s musical training, he has a deep “intuition” that allows him to learn musical instruments quickly, especially percussion. Some of the instruments that Bezl plays include:
- Djembe
- Bata
- Drum Set
- Congas
- Voice
- Guitar
- Bass Guitar
Around the time that Bezl started to play the African djembe, he also started carving them. Carving djembes was soon parlayed into sculpting artistic forms. With a Focus on 2 of his favorite shapes: Hearts and Women’s bodies, Bezl’s work has been described as unique, elegant, and erotic.
Bezl lives in Sarasota and continues to make music and carve and sell unique drums and sculptures.
